The D.O. Navarra wines belonging to the Rioja Baja area are wines with higher alcohol content and level of extract, as a result above all of their Mediterranean style climate. The varieties allowed are: Tempranillo, Grenache, Mazuelo and Graciano for the reds; and Viura, Malvasia and White Grenache for the whites.
GEOGRAPHICAL AREA
In Navarra, wines from the region of the Rioja D.O.C. area known as the Rioja Baja are produced in eight localities: Andosilla, Aras, Azagra, Bargota, Mendavia, San Adrián, Sartaguda and Viana.
BUYING GUIDE
The majority of Rioja wines are the result of a harmonious combination, in different proportions, both of the grape varieties grown in the Denomination and of the different regions that make up the D.O.C. area. Red, rosé and white wines are sold under the following categories: Garantía de Origen (wine which has not undergone an ageing process), Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva. They are all duly identified with the logo of the Denomination of Origin and the back label provided by the Regulating Council.
TIP: red Rioja wine should be served at a temperature of 16 to 18 °C; the whites and rosés should be served at 10 to 13 °C.
